Special Class Railway Apprentices SCRA Exam 2014 is conducted by the UPSC. SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentice) is the apprenticeship B-Tech programme of 4 years duration which is administered and governed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The Notification for the examination is usually released in October of every year and examination is conducted in January of every year. The successful end of the training session will make the candidate come out as Mechanical Engineers in the department of Mechanical Engineering, Railway of India. Every YEar almost 1.5 lakhs candidates write the exam and around 50 are selected. So its a tough competition and only the best survives. Good Luck to all!!!
Eligibility Criteria
A candidate must be either :
(a) a Citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Educational Qualification
This exam is basically conducted for Plus-Two/12th passed students who wich to become a mechanical engineer with Indian Railways. Students must have passed with first or second division in class 12th and have studied compulsory subjects like Mathematics and the Chemistry & Physics as in the qualifying exam.
Candidates who have passed the 1st or 2nd yr of graduation with minimum 55%/60% marks in the said subjects above can also apply provided that the degree programme must be recognized from the University. Candidates holding Engineering diplomas/degree are not eligible for the exam.
Age Limit
Must have attained the age of 17 years and must not have attained the age of 21 on 1st Jan 2014.
Relaxations as per Govt rules are applicable.
Selection Process
Candidates successful in the SCRA Exam are then called for an interview which checks a candidate's suitability for a career as Apprentices. All successful candidates are admitted to a 4 year mechanical engineering programme.
How to Apply
Candidates
are required to apply online by using the website www.upsconline.nic.in
Brief Instructions for filling up the Online Application Form have been
given in the Appendix II. Detailed instructions are available on the
above mentioned website.
The
eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admission Certificate three
weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admission
Certificate will be made available on the UPSC website for being
downloaded by candidates. No Admission Certificate will be sent by post.
All the applicants are required to provide valid & active e-mail
id., while filling up Online application form as the Commission may use
electronic mode for contacting them.
